Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading the and the lecture are both a compulsory policy which gives the chance to employees to work in 4days of the week instead of 5 days. It is stated in the reading that both people and the whole economy would benefit from the plan. However, the lecturer disagrees with the ideas made by the reading and casts doubt on the explanations the readings provided.
First, the reading claims that fewer work hours make employees more relaxed and attentive to accomplish their job with fewer faults. Besides, companies would benefit from hiring new employees with no further costs and the company would be profitable more. By contrast, the lectures disputes. He points out that the more the companies hire new employees, the more the company should spend on their medical and training. In addition, newcomers need more space and equipment such as computers which increases the cost and cut down the economic benefits.
Second, it is claimed in the reading that the unemployment rate would diminish and create more jobs for others to take. This specific claim is debunked by the lecturer. He mentions that working fewer hours would increase companies’ expectations to make sure that current employees would meet the expectations to accomplish jobs. As a result, people work in a stressed full, and unpleasant job environment.
Finally, the reading explains that the fewer the work hours, the more time people have to pursue their interests and have fun with their families. In contrast, the lecturer’s stance is that the situation would face people’s job instability and harm their advancement in their jobs. In addition, he says that companies are prone to give management position to one who work all five days a week to make sure they could manage and supervise the entire workweek efficiently.
