Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on
specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading and lecture are both about the practices in which wood companies are being certified in order to maintain ecological standard. The author of the reading states that this way they could promote their product and allure more consumers. Nevertheless, American c6mpanies not tended to utilize these practices. The lecturer opposes the idea and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that US companies are connected to numerous advertising and the products are already tagged as better one, they need not to attain certificate. The lecturer believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that now customer distinguish between certifies and non certified ones and they confer more importance to certified company as they trust to those who has certification.
Secondly, certified woods are costly and they rather choose to offer goods that are affordable since they believe consumer prompt to purchase wood that are cost effective to them. The speaker on other hand points out that although they care about price they are concerned about the certification. In addition, if there is minimal difference of 5% amid certified and non certified then undoubtedly they would choose the verified ones.
Finally, the reading passage als6 notes that US companies are inclined towards elevating their customers throughout the world making their business established as they reckon it would only make sense if they could make their business worldwide otherwise certification is of no use. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that in order to have strong competition and flourish in foreign market then it is imperative to be certified first.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on US companies not taking this practice seriously. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argument.
