The reading and lecture are both about the excluding the musical class from schools. The author of the reading states that because of the insufficient fund, it is crucial to eliminate certain program such as music as they are not considered to be essential. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions this is not the money issue but the art itself and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
In the reading the author begins by stating cutting off the music class provide student more time to focus on other important subjects like maths. The lecturer beleives there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends learning music can be beneficial to choose other subject. For instance, maths and many more. He goes on to say that since the music student can find minor differences between sound, eventually it is helpful for spoken languate too.
According to the writer, music classes acquire expensive instrument to learn. However, other classes just require the textbook which makes no sense to spend a lot of money in music class. The speaker on other hand points out that there are many volunter teacher who teaches for free. In addition, we can find musical instruments in cheaper price as well.
Also, the reading passage notes that very students have not talent to learn music. Similarly, there are merly a few youngster who are joining class and most of them forget too. Thus, this is unrealistic and no one is benefited by this. The professor rebuts this argument, He puts forth the idea that learning music aids them to express things in a creative way.
As we see, the author and lecturer holds very different views on the pros of leaning music. The speaker effectively challenges that writer’s argument.
