Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the Whistler’s famous painting of his time that is Symphony in white. The author of the reading claims that although the painting was not signed by him, it is his one of the work. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions there are not enough evidences to prove the painting is of Whistler’s and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
The author of the writing begins by stating though it was not signed by him,we have other proof to prove it was his. In addition, after his death his close friend attributed this painting in the exhibition. The lecturer believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends, the exhibition was of many different painters. So, although the painting resembles the same women of Whistler’s painting, there are no enough evidences to prove it right.
According to the reading, the painting was exactly the same as of Whistler’s.The style is clear and the monochromatic palate that he use,all are same. The speaker on other hand points out that the monochromatic pattern was the famous pattern of that time .He goes on to say that there were so many painter who used such pattern. Thus,it is not clear the painting was painted by him.
Also, the readimg passage notes that, the painting was not signed by him but there was a small butterfly in lower right cornerwhich he used to draw in any of his paintings. And this butterfly was exactly the same in color, size and style as well. The speaker rebuts this argument. He says the butterfly was not of same color and the position of the butterfly was in th upper left corner not in the right. Therefore,it doesnot verify that the painting was of Whistlers.
As you can see,the writer and the lecturer holds very different views on Whistler’s painting. The speaker effectively challenges the claim made in the article.
