Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the UN convention on rights to migrants with the view to protect workers and families. The author of the reading states that although they accord liitle security, there are issues pertaining to it. The lecturer disagrees and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that it violates the immigration policies of numerous countries as certain rights goes againt the national interest. For instance, family reunification results in overpopulation of nation and thus affect the living standard of people residing there. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that convention rather prevent the migrants and families as the nations who signed the convention are compelled to follow law. In addition, they are the legal framework to protect them and provide guideline to respect and incorporate with policy.
Secondly, according to the writing, migrants are painted as being suffering from poverty yet this is not the case as they are provided the opportunity to work overseas which lead them to be economically well off. The speaker on other hand points out that their rights are actually erored in many nation restricting them to migrate internationally.
Finally, the reading passage also notes that this is a serious issue that need solution such as nation could motivate them for family planning, flourish their economy, creating opportunity and so on. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that with the increment in moving from country to country either legally or illegally , there is elevating in economic instability, conflict and so on. Moreover, there is a high demand for protection to these threat. Therefore, UN convention ensures the protection.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on UN convention on rights to migrate. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argument.
