Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific methods proposed in the reading passage.
The reading and lecture are both about the ability of humpback whales to navigating by stars. The author of reading believes that there are three signs which support this hypothesis. The lecture challenges the statement made by the author. Professor is of the opinion that these marks are not convincing.
First of all, the author suggests that humpback has an intelligent for using stars to navigate. This idea is challenged by the lecture. He says that other animals such as dogs have this ability to navigate by stars, but they have average or very low smart. Furthermore, he argues that navigating by stars has no connection with the clever in humpback because these are two separate things.
Secondly, the writer contends that humpback can migrate in straight lines. The article notes this skill does need some external objects or forces, so stars can use instead of objects for the whale that they can maintain their direction. The lecture, however, rebuts this by asserting that animals when they can use this way which they have to sense external forces. He elaborates on this by mentioning that humpback whales have bio magnetite in their brains, but it no indicates a relation between this substance with navigating by stars, otherwise, the bio magnetite suggests that whales can orient themselves by magnetic field without stars.
Finally, it is stated that in the article that humpback whales have spy-hopping that is rare behavior in other animals. The explanation for the skill is that it can provide a condition for whales to see the stars and get enough information from them for navigating. The lecture, on the other hand, posits that spy-hopping is rare in other animals, but some sharks have spy-hopping that they hunt their prey in this way. Also, the professor says that humpback whales do the spy hop during the day that there are no stars at that time. As a result, this action has no function in navigating.
