The passage and the lecture discussed the origin of the Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet painted by famous Dutch artist Rembrandt. While the information in the passage is full of doubts that the portrait belongs to Rembrandt, the lecture proves that Rembrandt could draw this masterpiece.
First, some doubts regarding inconsistencies in clothing can be explained as pigments influence on the portrait. The painting was covered by pigments in order to make the woman more sophisticated. Moreover, it was revealed that the fur collar coat was added a hundred years after the portrait was.
Second, the theory that the shadows and lights are wrongly shown on the portrait are also unreasonable because they are very realistic originally. The way how Rembrandt used to draw shadows on the fur collar and the woman's face is the authentic which Rembrandt could use only.
Third, the back of the painting was a single piece of wood and it was also used in master's self-portrait, where behind the Rembrandt's back was the same solid blosk of wood as it was in the portrait of woman.
