The article and the lecture are both about the eco-certification of wood companies by an international organization so as to encourage ecofriendly forestry practices. The article claims that wood companies in USA will not adopt these ecofriendly practices so as to get the eco-certification and gives three reasons. The lecturer disagrees with the article and refutes all the reasons.
Firstly, the author mentions that American customers do not have much trust in advertisements so they would not have trust in eco-certification as well. The lecture challenges this statement by saying that American customers do not trust advertisements which are claimed by their own companies but they find the certification issued by independent organization trustworthy.
Secondly, the author tells us that wood companies have to spend more money in order to receive certification as a result they would have to increase their prices which would not be liked by American customers. The lecturer contradicts this by elaborating that studies have shown that when there is small differences in prices of different product choices available, then American customers consider other factors too. He argues that wood companies with their certified products would be preferred by customers as there would be only about 5% hike in prices.
Thirdly, the author explains that American companies usually sell most of their products to American customers so they are not interested to get eco-certification so as to keep up with the development in the rest of world. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that getting eco-certification would attract foreign companies to America which would help American companies to expand their businesses.
In conclusion, the lecturer casts doubt on all the claims made in the article.
