The article explains that the increase in agriculture and pesticide use along with the population increase does the harm to birds in the United States and provides three reasons to support. However, the professor refutes each of the author's points.

First, the reading says that because of the expansion of human populations and settlements, places for birds will continue to disappear. The professor disputes this point by stating that the expansion does not lead to a decrease of all birds. She claims that although the expansion does harm to some species, other species can lead a good life in a city.

Second, the article states that the growth of agriculture with the population increase will also damage the nature of birds. Nonetheless, the professor says that thanks to the improvement in agricultural technology, we don't need to destroy the wilderness as before. According to the professor, we can raise crops more productively now so the need for places for agriculture is decreasing.

Third, the reading says that birds get damaged by chemical pesticides that people use for agriculture. The professor opposes this point by introducing an example of future pesticides. She explains that they are less toxic than the old ones and the best part is that pest-resistance crops invented these days don't harm to birds.

Therefore, the main points made by the professor cast doubt on the main points made in the reading passage.
