The article states that “let it burn” policy for forest fires should be replaced by “extinguish fires as soon as they happen” policy and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that forest fires are one part of ecology cycle of forest and refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that fires cause huge damage to trees and vegetation. The professor refutes this point by saying that although fires have an effect on vegetation and maybe some of them disappear, but a new generation of plants have the opportunity to grow. He states that by burning high trees, small plants grow more than before. So, diversities of small plants increased.
Second, the article posits that fires have an influence on wild animals. Small animals can’t escape and large animals maybe burn in fires. The article states because of the burning of plants, foods for animals will decrease. However, the professor says that animals can also recover. According to the professor, because of the growth of small plants, the amount of food for a small animal like a rabbit and heer increased. As a result, because of an abundance of food, the number of these animals increased too. Other animals which eat these small animals will increase.
Third, the reading says that forest fires have a negative impact on local economy, a number of tourists inclined and local business suffered as well. The professor opposes this point by explaining that this doesn’t make sense. He explains that tourist came back next year and that area has tourism each year like before.
