both the author and the lecturer discuss whether ethanol fuel is a good alternative to gasoline or not. The passage claims that ethanol fuel is a good replacement for gasoline. The professor, on the other hand, completely reject whatever mentioned in the reading through citing three reasons.
First, both the author and the professor talk about the effect of ethanol fuel on global warming. According to the passage, ethanol releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, so t causes global warming. Thus, it does not have any environmental advantage rather than other kinds of fuels. The lecturer, nevertheless, reject the author's view and illustrates the idea that planting corn from which ethanol comes lead to absorbing carbon dioxide and decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide, therefore it does not add to the global warming.
Second of all, both the reading and the lecture discuss consuming source of food for animals. The author argues that sixty percent of the corn is used for producing ethanol, so it causes the lack of food for animals. However, the professor refutes this, saying that ethanol is obtained from cellules and this part of plants is not eatable for animals, so producing ethanol does not reduce the amount of food for animals.
Eventually, the passage and the lecturer address the subject of price. The passage goes on to mention that ethanol does not have any economical advantage. if government stops the subsides related to the ethanol, the price of this fuel will be increase. In contrast, the professor points out that ethanol fuel does not need constant support and if the ethanol production increases up to three times, its price will decreases forty percent.
All in all, the author maintains that replacement of gasoline with ethanol fuel is not convincing, while the professor not only completely cast doubt on it, but he also demonstrates that ethanol advantages of using ethanol fuel outweigh disadvantages of gasoline fuel.
