Both the reading and the lecture discuss about strange noises in the place that submarine are patrolling. While the author claims that there are three facts that make us believe that froglike sound are there, the lecture doesn’t accept it and provide some pieces of evidence to state that these hypothesis are wrong.
First, the reading says that this strange noise is made by male and female orca whales during a courtship ritual. However, the lecture disagrees. According to the lecture, submarins are in deep part of seas, but orcas make sounds on the surface of water. So this hypothesis does not make sense.
In addition, according to the reading passage, giant squids can cause the noise there. They are in deep in the ocean and prey on large fish. Their complex brains show that they are intelligent so they can emit huge sound. Conversely, the lecture disapproves this point of view. She points out that, these weird animals were detected in 1960, but this strange noise was recognized in 1980, two decades later.
Furthermore, the text points out that, this noise can be made by foreign countries submarine. They are patrolling in that area as a military technology services. On the other hand, the audio part rejects this. He argues that submarines can not change their direction but the source of the sound change quickly and their engine sound is different from orcas sound. Nowadays wedo not have technology that makes the submarine silent and fast.
