Both the reading and speaking try to discuss about the applications of carved stone balls. Although the reading states that the carved stone balls were appleid for some reason exception of ornament, based on some theories, The lecturer brings three reason to represent that the ideas are mentioned by reading are highly questionable and refute them all by three reasons.
At first, the reading explains the theory that the carved stone balls have grooves one their surface and this grooves probably were built to allow persons to swing them or throw it. So, this tools were apply for weapons. On the contrary, the lecturer rejects this idea due to the fact that all weapons which made in that time and have some grooves have been spoiled from now, but the carved stone balls have been very well preserved. Therefor, this tools were not used for fighting or hanting.
Furthermore, the passage brings the theory which aserts that according to the fact that these tools were made in the same size, they might be utilized for weighing or measuring the food. On the other hand, the professor brings the idea that this reason is erraneous due to the fact that although they are in the same size, there are different caved stone balls with different density, some have heavy density and some have low density. Consequently, the carved stone balls were not applayed as a standard weights to measure quantities of some goods.
Finally, the author expresses that these tools were build elaborate and may be they used for marking the significant social statues. Conversary, the speaking dismisses this idea by this concept that there were some highly ranked persons in that era and if the carved stone balls were exerted for marking, these tools must be found in this buried place. But there were no carved stone balls. THis means that these tools were not used in order to mark the important social statues.
