In the reading section, the writer contends that because of the extreme and inhospitable conditions on Venus, it is not possible to maintain a permanent presence there because the atmospheric pressure of Venus' surface is much greater than earth, the are no reservoirs of water on Venus' surface, and very little sunlight reaches the planet surface; however, in the lecture, the professor casts doubt on the reading points by presenting some reasons and examples.
First of all, the writer claims that due to its high atmospheric pressure which applies 100 kilograms on every square centimeter of surface nothing can land on Venus and anything would be crushed by landing on its surface. Conversely, the professor rejects this notion by suggesting that by putting a floating station in Venus' atmosphere we can deal with these challenges easily; furthermore, he states that it is a well-known fact that pressure at 50 kilometers above the Venus' surface is equal to earth surface. Thus, spacecrafts and humans can easily handle that amount of pressure.
Moreover, contrary to the idea in the reading part suggesting that there are no reservoirs of water on Venus' surface and its atmosphere, and the fact that it is impractical to supply water and oxygen from earth, the lecturer mentions that as we know there is carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid in Venus's atmosphere. Hence, by using chemical reactions we can turn them into oxygen and water, so there is no need to supply them from earth.
In addition, even though the writer asserts that very little sunlight reaches the Venus' surface due to the thick clouds that fill the Venus's atmosphere, so the lack of enough sunlight would prevent the use of solar power cells, the professor denotes that clouds above the Venus's atmosphere which the floating spacecraft located are not so dense. Therefore, we have access to enough sunlight to use in our solar power cells.
