The reading states that the discovered coin in the Native American site is a fake and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains the coin is not a fake necessarily and refutes each of the author’s point.
First, the reading states that the discovery is found in a great distance from Norse settlement, which reveals the coin is a fake. The professor refutes this point by saying that North Native American would travel over long distances, and would obtain valuable objects. It is probable that they could have reached the Norse and obtained the coin originally from them.
Second, the article claims that since there are no other coins have been found, the discovered coin is a fake. However, the professor contends that it is not necessary true. The Norse, who traveled to the Native North American site, in their way back to Europe packed up their valuable objects as well as their coins.
Third, the author states that coins did not have any use for the North American settlement. The lecture apposes this point by stating that it is true that the North Native American did not use coin, but they were interested in valuable object. The Norse knew the fact that the American settlement probably found the coins valuable for their beauty. For example, they could have used the coins in necklaces. Therefore, it is probable that the Norse use coins to trade with them.
