The passage and listening are arguing over the question whether bees have been lived on Earth for 200 million years. An old fossil structure has been found in an old fossilized tree that this structure is for 200 million years ago. There is an idea that this structure is a bee fossil. The author refuses this claim by listing three arguments. On the contrary, the lecturer mentions some reasons for refusing these arguments.
First of all, the passage mentions that the oldest bee fossil remains have been found, are for 100 million years ago. Thus this 200 million year old fossil is not a bee fossil. On the contrary, the lecturer states that bees remain cannot be preserved easily. The bees’ bodies need some specific circumstance like some specific trees for preserving. These trees are rare, thus the bee fossil are rare and it does not mean that bees did not live in 200 million years ago.
Second, the author believes that bees need flower for their food and the flower plants have been existed since 125 years ago. The lecturer believes that bees provided their foods from not flowery trees like pine trees before the advent of flower plants.
Third, the passage refuses that this fossil belongs to a bee. The author thinks that although, the fossil structure is similar to modern bees, chamber of modern bee nest are not like the fossil chamber. On the other side, the lecturer states that there is some chemical proof that proves this fossil is a bee fossil. Some people analyze some chemical materials and they found that the bees’ substance water is similar to this fossil.
All in all, the passage is going to refuses this claim that this fossil is a bee fossil. But, the lecturer insists that is a bee fossil.
