TPO 45 Q1

The reading claims that the fossils which has been found recently are not for bees and they did not exist 200 million years ago. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.

The author argues that no fossil remains of actual bees have ever been found that date to 200 million years ago. Conversely, the professor underlines the fact that although this claim is true, it does not mean that they are not fossils of bees. According to the professor bees need specific trees which have specific liquid in order to help them preserve. Since These trees are rare, they might not find these trees 200 million years ago. So it does not mean that they did not exist.

Furthermore, the reading posits that bees feed exclusively on flowers of flowering plants which were not available 200 million years ago. On the contrary, the lecturer brings up the idea that although bees have a mutually dependent biological relationship with flowers, it is possible that bees used to consume none-flower as their food. Then she asserts that it is possible that bees adopt themselves when flower evolved and they have started to eat flowers ever since.

Finally, the passage holds the idea that fossilized structures found in Arizona lack some of the finer details of bees, nests. In contrast, the lecturer dismissed this idea due to the fact that there are some chemical evidence which can help to prove that these fossils actually blong to the bees. She explained that modern bees are using some water prof chemical in their nest. By analyzing the fossilized structures , they found the same chemical.
