TPO-47

In the lecture professor opposes against the arguments in the text about pterosaurs powered flight. She states that this animal may have been capable of powered flight.
First, the text claimed that the metabolism needed for powered flight was not available for them due to being cold-blooded. In other words, cold-blooded animals are unable to produce enough energy for powered flight. However, the speaker refutes the idea of Pterosaurs being cold-blooded. She illustrates that having dense hairlike covering and fair covering is the charactristic of warm-blooded animals. Therefore, they were warm-blooded and had faster metabolism which enable them to supply their powered flight.
Also, the reading argued with the possibility of powered flight due to heavy weight of animal. The professor challanged that idea by clarifying that although the animal was big, the weight was not heavy. They had hollow bones which made them light for size. This made them low enough weight to be able produce airborn energy by moving wings fast and be able to fly.
Lastly, the lecturer disagrees with the reading's idea about not having back legs for jump or running fast make the possibility of flight for this animal less likely. She states that the need of having strong back legs for powered flight is for 2 limbs animals birds who need to use them fo running fast or jumping high to be able to take off the ground. In 4 limbs animals there is no need for having strong back leg because they can use their 4 limbs to push off and run fast or jump high to take off the ground and launch themselves to the air.
