The reading discusses that pterosaurs were not able to fly and the author listed three factors to support this hypothesis. However, the lecturer finds all the reasons dubious and presents some evidence to refute all of them.
First, the reading proposes that as modern reptiles are cold-blooded, they were too. Hence, their slow metabolism does not produce a lot of energy for them. In contrast, the lecture asserts that their fossils show they had dense hair covering that helps them to maintain their body temperature like warm-blooded animals to support the supply of energy. As a result, the speaker rebuts this idea.
Furthermore, the reading passage points out that the heavyweight refrains from the flight. On the contrary, the speaker casts doubt on this issue and states that their anatomical features help them fly. Inasmuch as the hollows of their bones cause they are light despite large body frames.
Last but not least, the author debates that they need big and powerful muscles in their back legs to launch themselves into the air so they are not able to run or jump due to the weak bones and muscles. On the other hand, the speaker depicts that their taking off is different from other birds. As a matter of fact, they use four limbs, despite the two legs of the birds, to push off the ground and not just by using their backbones. Therefore, the speaker dismisses this fact like other reasons and brings some reasonable reasons to rejects each claim.
