TPO 48 - Integrated Writing Task
In the passage, it is presented that there are several ways to solve the problem of declining frog populations. In contrast, in the lecture, the professor states the weaknesses of all three methods.
First of all, it is proposed in the passage that frogs are being harmed by pesticides. So people can make laws to confine peasants from using the pesticides in order to protect frogs. Notwithstanding, in the lecture, the professor opposes that if farmers living near the cut habitats of frogs cut down the use of pesticides, more crops will be threatened as farmers rely on pesticides most to prevent pests from devouring crops. Then these farmers may not be the strong competitors in the market.
Secondly, it is thought to be feasible that people can use antifungal medication and treatments to limit the spread of fungus. Nevertheless, the professor holds a different point of view that the method used to solve the problem has to be available to be applied to use to each individual. Consequently, implementing the method in a large scale will be extremely difficult. Indeed, the application of this method is too complicated and expensive.
Thirdly, in the reading, it seems to be plausible that people can protect frog populations by reduce the use and development of water and wetlands. However, the professor objects to it that it may not work because water and wetlands are mainly threatened by the phenomenon of global warming.
