The main idea of both passage and the lecture is mainly about how commonly poachers hunt Rhinos horns illegally for sale them for expensive prices. With this in mind, the author mentions that there are several ideas have been suggested to help save them, three of which he provides to support his idea. The lecture, on the contrary, categorically refutes all three evidence and states that even it's necessary to do something about this problem, the mentioned suggestions are not wake enough to be useful.
First, both reading and the listening discuss the idea of preparing this kind animals by dehorning them to live free in the wild districts. In this line of thought, the author states that, by removing the horns, the poachers lose their attention to the rhinos. Horns can be remove without hurting the animal by using medical equipment and drugs. Conversely, the lecturer explains that this method is neighter practical, nor good for the human survival. Finding rehinos, preaporing them and removing their horns is both expensive and time taking and also reduces the chance of the animal to survive. Rhinos use their horns to dig water, find food, guide and protect their young , etc, which will be lost by removing horns. Accordingly, this advantages is more than the points for the animal.
Second, both text and talk put forth the idea of educating consumers about the wrong belives of health advantages from the Rhino horns. In this line of thought, the author maintains that the keratin Benefid produced by using horns is not scientific reality and by awaring people of the fact, the animal can be protected more. However, the lecturer points out that its is a cultural, ancient belive among people and a long lasting belief will not be rejected easily. This means, changing peoples mind will not also be helpful surviving the Rhinos.
Third, the passage and the lecture materials talk about how legalizing sale of horns by government. In this regard, the passage states that annually, the government receives many of the horns seized form the poachers. By legalizing them, the prices reduce and the animals survive when the hunters don't attract to kill them for taking horns. The lecturer, on the other hand, points out that taking this results is not predictable. Making the sale of horns legal means making this method acceptable and number of consumers and shops of horns will grow dramatically. pochers will not only stop but also hunt more to add to their income more. Accordingely, this ,method is not helpful either.
