The reading and the lecture are both about the little ice age The author in the reading believes that the little ice age cause cooling to the earth. The lecture cast doubt on the claims made in the articles. He thinks that the little ice age not the main cause of the the harsh cold climate of the earth.
First of all, the author point out that disrupting of the Gulf Stream is the main cause of cooling the earth. It is mentioned that melting fo the ice age lead to cold weather on the earth. This point is challenged by the lecturer. he says disrupting of golf stream happened in Southern America and newzeland as well as Europe and North America, however the cold harsh weather is only in Europe and North America.
In addition the author content that volcanic eruption is the cause for cooling the earth. The author notes the dusts formed from the volcanic eruption block the sun light and consequently cause decrease in the global temperature. The professor elaborates on this point by mentioning that the volcanic eruption also cause striking visual effect. For example color sunset and sky color may look gray. But there is no evidence of these visual effects.
Lastly, the author states that decrease in the human population is another indirect support that causes cooling the climate. The article establishes that increase in the amount of trees leads to increase in the amount of carbon dioxide. The green house effect consequently decreases. The lecturer on the other hand posits that there is no time for all this process to happen. she puts forth the idea that the farmer start to cut down the trees and clean the field for growing more plant to accommodate the increase in the population
