The lecture and the reading both discuss the carved stones balls. The reading states that there are many theories about the use and the mean of the carved stone balls and enumerates three theories. The lecture refutes this point by stating that all the theories mentioned in the reading are not convincing.
First of all, the reading argues that the carved stones balls were weapons used for hunting or fighting. However, the lecture disagrees. It claims that the weapon used during the Neolithic period should show sign of wears. The weapon should be cracked or had ripped pieces. However, according to the professor, the surface of the stone balls were well preserved and showing no damage.
In addition, the reading states that carved stones ball were used as primitive system for weight and measurement. All the stone balls were uniform in size. The lecture counters this point by stating that the stone balls were uniform in size but their masses were considerable different. Furthermore the stone balls were made of different kinds of stones such as sand stone and each type has different density. The stone balls not used as a primitive way for measurement.
Lastly, the reading makes the argument that the stones balls served a social purpose because the stones had elaborate designs. The lecture refutes this point by saying that it is unlikely that the stone balls served any social purpose. First some stones had very simple design. Moreover, the Neolithic people usually buried with their valued possessions with them, but non of those stones were found in the curved. That means that the stones had no social purpose and they were only for person use.
