Both the reading passage and the lecture doubt that the evidence was found near the fossil of sinosauropteryx is shown that this dinosaur had feathered. While the reading states that there are several reasons to deny this idea, the professor, on the other hand, refutes all three episodes of arguments mentioned in the reading. Believing that the evidence is strong enough.
First, the writer points the view that it may those fine lines are the trace of skin decomposition into the fibers after dead of the dinosaur. Conversely, the professor makes it clear that other animals remnents that were founded in the site were well preserved without any trace of skin decomposition. Thus, the idea of skin decomposition is not convincing.
Second, the author claims that those fine lines are much likely to be the sinosauropteryx's frills. However, the professor explains that firlls and feathers have different chemical compesition and the result of analysis could show that those fine lines are likely to be feathers rather than frills.
Finally, the reading selection put forth the idea that the lines in the fossil were located in the back of the sinosauropteryx. Therefore, the structure would have been quite useless for helping sinosauropteryx to fly and body heat regulation. On the other hand, the lecturer contradicts this reason and illustrates that feathers are not just use for thermoregulation and fly. For instance, some birds use their colorful feathers to attract mate. As the evidence shows there were traces of orange and whit color near the sinosauropteryx's fossil which could show that sinosauropteryx used its feather inorder to display.
