Tpo41: professor and passage challenge each others on how to rules on coal ash could beneficial
The female professor in the lecture finds it unacceptable to assert that it is unnecessary to make new regulations to coal ash and might have negative influence. In other words, she casts doubt on what the reading passage states. And in the lecture, she uses three convincing points to support her idea.
To begin with, the author of the reading passage contends that there have been effective regulations to the ash coal that companies must use liner-special material in every new pond they build. The speaker, however, refutes that old pond also need to use liner-special material owing to the fact that coal ash release from old pond would sink into ground water and turn into the drink water that have significant damage to people's health. Apparently, the idea of the reading material is dubious.
Furthermore, contrary to the notion given by the reading passage that new regulations may discourage people to buy the product which is made by recycling of coal ash, the lecturer claims that the new regulation would not cause significant influence to the recycle products, for example, she talks about mercury which will cause damage to people's body, however, they have used a lot of products made of recycle mercury and have few concerns about these products, which differs from what the reading reveals.
Last but not least, the listening material confute the statement showed in the reading passage that new regulations would increase the price of electricity and will not welcomed by public, by pointing out that the average price of the electricity would just increase 1%, therefore it is worth, Clearly, it is a third point which is in conflict with its counterpart in the reading passage.
