Travelling to Mars

Essay topics:

Travelling to Mars

The article and the lecture both deal this the possibility of travelling to Mars. While the author of the text offers three reasons for thinking that the mission is not likely to succeed, the lecturer opposes the writer’s claims. In his opinion, there can be solutions for many of the obstacles.
First, the author mentions that the first obstacle for this mission is the lack of air, and that astronauts would need to bring oxygen to Mars. Furthermore, it is stated in the article that oxygen burns easily on this planet, and therefore bringing oxygen is really dangerous. In contrast, the professor argues that the Mars’ atmosphere consists of the carbon dioxide which can be broken on carbon and oxygen by a new device. On top of that, he maintains that the mentioned new invention is being tested now on Mars and is functioning well.
Second, the writer mentions another problem that there are no lakes on Mars, therefore it would be impossible to live there for a long time. Additionally, it is stated in the article that astronauts wouldn’t be able to grow plants there and could starve if the food from the Earth became damaged. However, the lecturer calls this argument into question by saying that there is water ice on Mars, which can be melted and drunk. Moreover, he highlights that people can use this water to raise some crops right on Mars.
Finally, the author asserts that the radiation on Mars can influence in a very dangerous way on the astronauts and even lead to skin cancer. In addition to that, the radiation can damage the brain, and people can lose their decision-making abilities. As opposed to the writer, the professor holds that radiation can be blocked by rock and ice, which can be used in building the habitants. He also adds that astronauts’ spacesuits can protect them from the radiation when they get out of the habitants.
To summarize, whereas the writer claims that there is no possibility of travelling to Mars, the lecturer thinks the opposite.
