Use of hydrogen based fuel engine cell

Essay topics:

Use of hydrogen based fuel engine cell.

The article discuss possible alternative source to automobile’s internal combustion engine. The writer propose that hydrogen based fuel cell is the most promising technology and discuss it’s pros. Professor admit that there are problem associated with internal combustion engine, but thinks that writer is way too optimistic about hydrogen based fuel cell engine and it is not the solution.
First, the pessage state that internal combustion based engine use petroleum which is finite in the nature and we may run short of it in the future and thus advocate about using hydrogen based engine as it is easily available and can be even extracted from water. The professor agree abut the finite nature of petroleum but mentions the technological problem associate with the hydrogen fuel. In order to use hydrogen as a fuel source it should be in liquid form which is very hard technologically to achieve. Further, it should be stored at -253 degree celsius, which make it unpractical to use.
Second, writer states that hydrogen powered engine will solve many pollution related problems. As petroleun product generate carbon dioxide and menthane, which is harmful to environment, byproduct from a fuel cell engine is only water. The professor disagrees. She explains that in order to create hydrogen as a fuel from water, it will need the involvement of indusrues, which will work on coal and oil. So, the fuel engine car may not harm environment but the the creation of hydrogen will be responsible for generating equal pollution.
The writer also notes that the fuel engine cell will be more cost efficient, as, it will run on half of the fuel to travel same distance needed by internal combustion engine. The professor rebuts this argument. According to her, fuel cell engine require platinum for pepper functioning, which is a very rare adn expensive element. In absence of platinum, there will not be chemical reaction to produce electricity. Furthermore, use of other cheaper material to replace platinum were also unsuccessful. So, they may require less fuel, but the making the engine will be very expensive, and thus the overall cost.
