Vegetable oil as fuel for cars
Both the reading and lecture are about the vegetable oil as fuel for cars. In the passage, the author claims that using vegetable oil is not good for cars. Moreover, the lecturer disagrees with the assertion of the author and states that there are many reasons that show the vegetable oil is a good alternative for fuel.
First, in the passage it is stated that using vegetable oil needs special apparatuses and it can be so expensive for drivers who want to install the mentioned equipment. Nonetheless, the lecturer challenges the opinion of the author and gives evidence that it is not that much expensive for drivers. She points out to some examples to support her idea. First, she says that the equipment would pay itself after a while. She compares the cars which use vegetable oil and other gases. She says that most cars which use vegetable oil can be driven 800 up to 1000 miles for one tank of vegetable oil, but in contrary, the cars which use other gases can be driven just 500 miles per tank. However, she states that the price of equipment come down when most people start using vegetable oil.
Secondly, it is asserted in the passage that using special equipment would be so complex for drivers, but in contrast, the professor disagrees and gives evidence that using these apparatuses is not too hard. She expresses some examples of researches that say the equipment become automatic by due course of time. In addition, she says that there are automatic converters that works automatically.
Finally, in the passage it is mentioned that using vegetable oil can decrease the availability of the crops. However, the professor challenges this idea and says that the vegetable oil which is used for cars as fuel is the waste part of foods which are not used in the restaurants and factories.
In conclusion, the passage and lecture are against each other and challenge themselves. The passage says that it is not good to use vegetable oil as fuel, but by the other hand, the lecture points out some examples to show that vegetable oil is a good alternative for fuel in comparison to other fossils.
