Burgeoning of the first Universities across the world was the result of separation of the sciences by the philosophers. Prior to universities, philosophers were those who must have gone through the every branch of science and it had taken such a long time. The philosophers hedged every field of study in order to foster specialists in those fields. So sciences are not inherently distinctive. The statement above asserts that any field of study needs outside experience to have a notable advancement. While I generally agree with this assertion, this statement should not be overgeneralized.
