First of all, The passage mentions a committee that was put together by the National Geographic Society to investigate this trip to the North. Based on Peary's records and equipment's they committee concluded that he reached the North Pole. However, the professor disagrees with this due to the facts that many members of this committee were in fact Peary's friends and had spent alots of money on funding his trip, Moreover, they did not had enough time to invetigate this.
Second, the reading passage says the this trip, in the claimed time, is possible due to the fact that a British explorer named Tom Avery made the same trip in less than 37 days. In contrast, the professor cast doubt on this and mentions that Avery's did not have to carry food and was traveling much lighter and also the weather conditions when he was traveling was much better.
Finally, the reading passage states that some photographs that Perry tool provided strong evidence that he reached the north pole due to the fact that the sun's possition coulde have been calculated by these photos and they were the same as other photos that were taken in the arctics. However, The professor disagrees with this and mentions that the camera that perry used was to basic and to photos were faded. As a results, the shades could not have been calculated truly.
