The reading passage is about decline in the rate of reading literature books; however the professor disagrees.
The professor controverts all the arguments that have been made by the author of the reading passage; she also discredits all the points made by the author by providing some rational reasons. The reading states that the rate of reading books, especially literature books, has been declined and this phenomenon has many detrimental implications not only on individuals but also on our culture. The lecturer, on the other hand, mentions that none of the points made by the reading passage makes sense.
First and foremost, the author of the reading asserts that decline in the rate of reading novels and literature books is so critical because they contribute to our culture. Moreover, the reading passage contends that self-help books are much more popular than literature books and it is a disaster for our culture. In contrast, the lecturer opposes with this issue due to the fact that there are many books of other fields such as science, politics, and history that are beneficial for the culture, and they also can stimulate both our imagination and creativity.
Furthermore, the reading holds the view that activities such as watching TV, surfing the net, and watching a music video have been substituted for reading a good novel, and all the aforementioned activities are of a less value than reading a novel. On the contrary, the speaker argues that culture has changed. Consequently, many diverse cultural forms have been emerged such as music or movies. Either of them is culturally precious.
Eventually, the reading passage specifies that publishers have decreased their investing on literature books; as a result, writing has been declined. However, the professor disapproves and states that this issue has nothing to do with readers, so we cannot blame them. To illustrate, she states that modern novels are too elaborate to be perceived.
All in all, the professor had some reasons to refute the reading points.
