The article brings three solutions to help birds not to fly through glass windows. Nonetheless, the professor puts those factors under question. According to the professor, none of these solutions will stop birds from being damaged by glasses.
The first solution brought by the passage is that people can use one-way glass instead of the regular one. This glass is transparent in only one direction. In fact, if birds cannot see through a window from outside, they might think the glass is a solid barrier and will not fly through it. However, the lecturer believes that the problem of one-way glass is that it will reflex the light and act like a mirror. So birds might think this reflection is the sky or tree and fly through it.
Another option raised by the article is to paint colorful lines outside the windows. For instance, a design of thin stripes is a good choice. People still can see through lines, while birds would not fly through the window by seeing the stripes. In contrast, the professor makes the point that birds might see the windows as open holes. Therefore, they would like to fly through them. However, architectures can reduce the space between the lines, but the inside of the home get dark.
The last contradiction between the author and the lecturer is whether the artificial magnetic field can prevent the birds or not. According to the author, birds have a natural ability to sense Earth's magnetic fields. So by putting electromagnets in the buildings, we can help them to change their direction away from the building. On the contrary, the professor argues that birds can use the magnetic sense only for long distances. For example, when they want to travel from a cold place to a warm one, their sense helps them to find the right path. On the other hand, for short trips, they use only their eyes and brightness to find the direction. As such, the third solution is not convincing either.
