The bar chart below gives information about the percentage of the population living in urban areas in the world and in different continents.
The given bar diagram compares the changes in the proportion of population of city dwellers in the world and in five different continents in 1950 and 2007. The expected figures for 2030 is also presented in the graph. Overall, it is clear that the urban population increased in all of the continents in regard to the world.
The 29% of the world population in the urban areas in 1950 almost doubled to 49% in the year 2007 and it is projected that the population rate will further increase to 60% by the end of 2030. Among that, the North American region hold the highest percentage as the most populated urban area in both of the years at 64 and 79 percentage respectively and the expectation for 2030 is 80 percentage. In contrast, Africa and Asia were the least populated cities in 1950 with only 15 percentage of the world population but, it also surged to nearly 40 percentage in 2007 and the projection is almost 50 percent by 2030. Similarly, it is foreseen that the urban population in Europe will also rise to 78% by 2030 from 51% in 1950.
