The reading passage claims that Peary is one of the most famous adventurers who reached the North Pole during 1909, based on his claims and records and also, there are several pieces of evidence to show the accuracy of his claim. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author contends that the national geographic committee conducted a research and investigation whether Peary's claim is accurate or not. So, they declared that his claim was correct and he reached the North Pole. In contrast, the lecturer underlines the fact that the committee was not completely objective because all of its members were Peary's close friends who funded his travel. Also, they investigated the travel only in two days, which represents they did not carry out the research carefully.
Furthermore, the author holds the view that Peary reached the North Pole only in 37days as like as Avery who traveled during 37 days. Conversely, the professor brings up the idea that both journeys are different in some case. For instance, Avery carried fewer objects and foods and his meals delivered through the air and his travel was in more favorable weather condition. So, these examples show why Avery reached his destination in 37 days. But the travel of Peary would have taken more time to reach.
Finally, as set forth by the author Peary had taken myriads of photo and by the measurement of shadows and the position of surfs of the sun, it's crystal clear that he reached the North Pole. On the contrary, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that this measurement needs a highly developed technic and also, a high-quality photographer. But all of the photos are taken by a primitive camera and photos are become faded and looked lured. So, these photos could not be used to calculate the surf of sun.
Having scrutinized all the ideas, a logical conclusion that can be drawn is that there are loads of information having been overlooked by the author while the presence of which could strengthen the author's claim.
