TPO 47 integrated task
The lecture and the reading are about Pterosaurs powered flight. The reading states that several arguments against powered flight of pterosaurs. However, the lecturer casts doubt on what is presented in the text and refutes all the arguments presented in the reading. He does not feel that pterosaurs are really capable of powered flight as the author assumes.
First of all, the lecture argues that the Pterosaurs have metabolism process inside their body. Also, they have dense hair like covering which keeps them warm from inside. This shows that they are warm blooded animals, and they need to maintain high temperature inside the body. This will supply them energy to fly. The reading passage contradicts this
Secondly, with regard to second argument, Pterosaurs have anatomical features that make it light in weight. Their bones are hollow, thus have low weight despite of the large body frame. Therefore it is easy for them to fly in air by flapping their wings. The reading passage gives the opposite view.
Finally, the lecturer objects the third argument that Pterosaurs are not able to take off from the ground like birds do. He points out that birds use their lower limbs to walk on ground, while the Pterosaurs uses all four limbs to push off the ground .So they are fast enough to run and jump high enough into the sky. Moreover, they can fly far up in the sky with four limbs not only by the back ones. This is in direct contradiction with the passage claim that Pterosaurs does not have much strong limbs to fly up in the sky.
