The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and making comparisons where relevant.
The line graphs compares different sources providing for the energy consumption in the USA since 1980 with predictions until 2030.
In general, it can be seen that there has always been a huge gap between fossil fuels and renewable sources. Also, while the energy consumption of all types of fuels has experienced a net rise, that of hydropower seems to have not changed so much. These trends are also predicted to continue until 2030.
In details, the figure for petrol and oil fluctuated in the first 15 years, before going on a linear rise to 40 quadrillion units in 2005. The upward trend has continued, but more gently until 2020, when the figure is predicted to soar to peak at 50 quadrillion units in 2030. Coal and natural gas started at 20 and around 16 quadrillion units, respectively, and rose to the 25 quadrillion mark between 2010 and 2015. However, while the figure for the former is predicted to continue to rise, that for latter is expected to level off.
All three types of renewable energy initially supplied around 5 quadrillion units each. However, while nuclear and solar/wind energy have provided increasing more energy throughout the years and are expected to continue the moderate rise in the future, the figure for hydropower, despite having gone through fluctuations, is expected to remain the same.
