The charts below give information about travel to and from the UK, and about the most popular countries for UK residents to visit.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph reveals the change of number of tourists going to and from the UK from the year of 1979 to 1999, whereas the preferred nations of UK holidaymakers are compared in the bar chart.

It is clear from the information provided that the UK witnessed a surge that quadrupled its number of visitors over the two decades, ending at staggering 50 millions in 1999. Likewise, more UK citizens had a tendency to enjoy holiday overseas throughout this 20-year period. Having undergone a stable increase to some 11 millions in 1984, the UK saw a considerable climb in the subsequent decade prior to stabilising at somewhere in the vicinity of 20 millions in the 90s.

Regarding the prevalence of host countries for their holiday in 1999, France, evidently, was the most well-received choice with over 10 millions of visitors registered. Meanwhile, second in terms of popularity is Spain, which accounted for some 8 millions. By contrast, the remaining countries such as Turkey, Greece and the US shared a practically identical number of UK visitors at 3 millions.

Overall, tourism to and from UK showed a positive development during this period, whereas the majority of tourists originated in the UK enjoy their holidays in Spain and France in 1999.
