The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010
The pie charts illustrates the percentages of British students at a university in England who speak other languages in 2000 and 2010.
It is clear that the changes that took place in knowing different languages within a decade were not considerable. The percentages were steadily changing during this period. But anyway the main features of changes are possible to emphasize.
A first major transformation was diminishing of the students who know only the mother tongue language. It was decreasing from 20% to 10%. The same change was in the percentage of students who know French, it was diminished from 15% in 2000 to 10% in 2010.
The opposite situation was with the percentages of students who know Spanish, more than just one extra language, and another language from the list of languages that contains French, German, Spanish. All the proportions of these sectors increased to 5%.
The last main feature is a situation with the percentage of students who know German, it didn't change from 2000 to 2010.
