Tpo 28- integrated writing
In this set materials, the reading passage state that the claim's Robert about reaches the North Pole is true. However, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that the National Geographic Society was sent a committee to search for Robert's claim, and they said that Robert's claim was true. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that the National Geographic committee was close friends of Roberts, and they spend much money on Robert's trip; therefore, this committee was not objective. Also, they have searched only for 2 days; hence, it was not trusted and it was biased.
Second, the reading indicates that Roberts could travel to the North Pole in 37 days because Tome Avery also reached the North Pole in 37 days; conversely, what the lecturer believes is different. She points that the situation of Tome was completely different from Robert. Tomes has fewer weigh that used for travelling and he did not carry foods, and foods were sent to tome by air plain. In addition, the environmental situation when tom travelled, was very favourable that Roberts situation.
Finally, according to the reading, by measuring shadows from Robert's photos could calculate the position of the sun that shows exactly the situation of the sun on this day. However, the speaker claims that the measuring shadow is very precisely and not shows the exact position of the sun. Also, the photos of the Robers were fuzzy. And, these photos become fade and dark during a time. Hence, we could not calculate the sun position.
