Being stated within the passage through three angles advantages of hydrogen-based fuel-cell engines over internal-combustion engines have been viewed, against which the professor lectured and stated that the claims within the passage are too optimistic. Firstly, it was claimed that internal-combustion engines rely on petroleum, which is a finite resource. lecturer agreed to this fact but also mentioned that hydrogen is not an available resource. although hydrogen is a prevalent resource, gaining it in pure liquid form, which is for fuel-cell engines needed, is a very difficult task and needs very high-tech devices to produce it. Secondly, although in the text mentions that using hydrogen helps to solve the pollution crisis, lecturer believes that the process of favorable hydrogen creates more pollution. She also added that the purification process uses many devices, which need petroleum. Thirdly, it was brought up in the passage that using combustion-based engines is more logical economically because they are twice efficient and need half amount of fuel. The professor, however, disagreed due to the reason that the production of favorable hydrogen as fuel costs more. The mandatory element, with which hydrogen can be used in fuel-cell engines, is Platinum. Extracting and using this element is so costly that makes it incompetent economically.
