The line graph depicts the percentage of mental illnes as indicated by incapacity benefit in the elderly males in the United Kingdom between 1971 to 2015. Overall, the 1995 reform brought a gradual decreasing in the incapacity benefit receipt.
It is clear from the graph that, in 1970, there are around 2.5% of mental illness accounted in the 65-69 age group. With regards to 60-64 males in UK was reported five times higher incidence that of 55-59 group in 1970. Then it constantly rose to just over 6% in the year 80, but it surpassed than 55-59 group and peaked at a level of 20% in the 1995 reform before declining to almost nothing in 2000.
Talking about 55-59 age group, the percentage of mental illness increased significantly and rocketed at a level of 20% which is almost similar to 65-69, then this steadily dropped after 1995 reform. Although 60-64 group experienced some fluctuations before reaching the highest incapacity benefits during reform, it came down to below 20% in 2015 after some ups and downs.
In conclusion, since the older UK males incidence of mental illness was high, it was significantly declined after the 1995 reform. The highest changes was noticed among the 65- 69 age group.
