You are applying for a job and need a letter of reference. Write a letter to a former teacher. In your letter:
Give details of the job
Explain why it is important to you
Suggest what information your teacher could put in the reference
Dear Mr Smith:
I am writing to ask if you would be willing to write a letter of reference in support of my job application. I am one of your old students from the 2016 batch.
I have been searching for a job since I completed my studies and now I have been shortlisted for an interview at a top software company and I have to give a letter of reference from a former professor. Since you know my strengths and weaknesses better than anybody else, I thought you are the right person for this job.
The job profile perfectly matches the one I always wanted. I will be working as a Java developer. As you know, Java has always been my passion and this opportunity will help me start my career in the field I have always wanted to be in. In addition, they are offering healthy salary with other additional benefits and incentives.
If you should decide to write a reference letter for me, I would like you to mention my positive traits such as my ability to learn quickly, my punctuality and enthusiasm in addition to my academic skills.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Arun
