The two given tables gave the information on the reasons and oversea destinations of UK travellers during the period 1994 to 1998 by conducting the survey of 100,000 people.
As can be seen at the first table, the proportion of UK residents travelling abroad for holiday in this period accounted for a significant part. The figure dropped a bit from 15,246 people in 1994 to 14,898 people in 1995. From then on, it increased gradually to 22,700 people in 1998. There was 3,155 people told that they went abroad for business trip in 1994, and the number increased marginally to 3,965 people in 1998. As for the reason of visits to friends and relatives, it started at 2,689 people in 1994, then slowly went up in the following three years, but ended up with a slump to 1,181 people in 1998. Besides, in 1994, there was only 982 travellers said they went for other reasons, and the number remained stable during the period.
It is clear from the second table that there were a dominant portion of UK residents who considered Western Europe as their most favorite area to visit. The figure fluctuated, with 19,371 people in 1994 but reached 24,519 people in 1998. Regarding the remaining destinations, North America and other areas, the number of persons increased moderately for both, finishing up with 1,823 and 2,486 people in 1998 respectively.
