The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The line graph illustrate the information about six types of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources in the USA from 1980 to 2008, date of the report and the prospective trend deduced from then to 2030.
Overall, it is clear that fossil fuels have been the dominant type for accounting the largest proportion of energy consumption from 1980 to tend to be more popular in the future. On the other hand, the renewable resources of energy remains comparatively stable.
A more detailed look at the graph reveals that despite some fluctuation in the first 15 years, petro and oil suffered a steady rise in use and is predicted to reach 50 quadrillion units, which will be the apex of the given period, in 2030. In 1980, natural gas came second and coal came third. However, after the unstable trend, coal is predicted to overtook natural gas - which remains relatively constant around 25 quadrillion units - in the year of 2015.
Nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower started at approximately 4 quadrillion in 1980. While nuclear constantly experienced moderate growth up to 8 quadrillion in 2030, solar/wind and hydropower fluctuate into two separated directions, upward for solar/wind and downward for hydropower. In general, these three types of energy sources are less significant and surpassed by fossil fuels, at least until 2030 according to the graph.
