praise positive actions and ignore negative ones
To be someone who is considered well-informed or educated has never been an easy task, since there are too many ideas and concepts to understand. Considering that people only have limited time to learn and explore, some people claims that praising positive actions and ignore negative ones is the most efficient or in other words, the best way to teach. However, this statement does not take anything into consideration and, even will cause unpredictable problems.
In most Chinese traditional families, children are being educated in the similar way which mentioned above. Even when they are pupils, they are taught by their parents or teachers like these words: You should do it. It’s good for you. It’s a terrible thing and you cannot do it. Actually, we should admit that this is effective in many cases, it will help children form great views of world, develop good study and living habits, avoid going astray.
However, the biggest problem of this kind of education is: it is difficult to distinguish positive actions from negative ones . For example, a child shows great interest and talented in music, and he would rather practice musical instrument than do his homework. As his parents, should they encourage their child to focus on study the positive action and ignore the child’s gifted in music? Another example, video games. Most parent’s attitudes towards video games should be aversive, and they usually attribute their children’s terrible grades to video games. Is it real that playing video games is a negative action? It’s hard to say. Gabe Newell, every player who plays video games knows him, the founder of the most famous PC game platform-steam, showed great interest in game when he worked in Microsoft. Due to his love for game and his efforts, he achieved great success. As an ordinary person, playing video games still has some benefits like getting relax, making more friends.
The idea solution from my point of view should be just let children explore on their own. If parents plan everything for their children, children will lose their ability to judge and think independently. As parents and teachers, the most correct tasks the should finish are guiding children to the right path when children are confused. Just let children decide which actions are positive by themselves, this should be the best way to teach.
