TOEFL TPO 20 - Integrated Writing Task
Actually, both the passage and the lecture comment about a massive forest fire which occurred in the summer of 1988 in Yellowstone. Some policymakers suggest "let it burn" theory instead of extinguishing the fire flames as a solution in such a situation. Although the passage brings three hypothesizes to prove the fact that the mentioned suggestion is counted as an adverse method, the lecturer puts those under question. According to the statements that are expressed, none of the theories are convincing.
First, as the passage claimed, if the fires are allowed to continue, both trees and other vegetarians such as herbs and crops will be destroyed; in fact, the flames would cause deleterious ruin. The speaker; however, refutes the claim by exemplifying new trees and seed which have grown after the Yellowstone fire. She believes not only don't such phenomena incinerate the environment but they also contribute other new plants to grow.
Next, as the passage stated, animals habitat, as well as vegetation, were limited in Yellowstone forest. huge animals including deer and elk abandoned their dwelling; moreover, smaller animals which can't abdicate the land were killed by fire; nevertheless, the passage dismisses the though by adding the same reasons which have been illustrated for trees.
Finally, the article declares that the tourism industry will be encounter inevitable issues; indeed, they will lose their revenue. On the contrary, the lecturer claims that there are many tourists who have visited the Yellowstone after the massive fire forest; therefore, it isn't a controversial problem.
