The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroleectric power plant.
The diagram given illustrates the method of electricity generation in a hydroelectric power plant.
First of all, water from a river is accumulated in a high-level reservoir which is guarded by a dam. Under the dam there is an intake, which is open during daytime and closed at night. In daytime, the water leaves the high-level reservoir and flows through the intake that carries the water to the reversible turbines, which are located in a power station. In the power station, there is a generator that is connected with the turbines, which generates electricity. The generator is connected with power lines through which it transmits electricity to the national grid.
The water that is discharged from the turbine goes to a low-level reservoir at daytime during operation. At night, water from the low-level reservoir is pumped back to the high-level reservoir again through the intake. The whole process is repeated the same way.
