number of arrests per year using illegal drugs
The line graph reveals the annual figures of arrests for consuming unlawful drugs in some places over a period of 15 years.
It is clear that imprisoned people for using illegal drugs increased sharply between 1999 and 2000. By contrast, it is interesting to note that the number of incarcerated people for illegal drug usage plummeted over the same period shown.
Looking at the line graph in more detail, illegal drug usage stood at about 55 people in 1991 and started to decline steadily till 20 over the next three years. However, this trend started to increase rapidly in 1993 and climbed two and a half times until 1996. This followed by a fluctuation over the next 3 years just before the sudden increase in 1999. From 1999 to 2000 the figures doubled and peaked at 80 arrests. Until the time when this figure started to remain firm, there was a significant decrease/plunged observed which roughly reached a low of 15 arrests in 2001 and over the next year remained stable. Starting 2002 there was a slight increase in 2003 at 20 arrests. Lately, illegal drug use was predicted to remain constant over the next years.
