Space
The reading and the lecture are both about the private space tourism. The author of the reading feels that private space tourism will benefits citizens as well as scientists. The claim made by the author is challenged by the lecturer. He says that it will not benefit anyone.
To begin with, the author states that the cost of the space flight will be cheaper as the competition will get increased. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He says that the space flight will be expensive. The private organization will have to develop the space traffic control system as well as good safety equipment, both will need too much cost.
Secondly, the Author claims that privatization will accelerate the rate of discoveries as the aerospace industries sponsor scientific research. The lecturer, however, contends this point by saying that it will prevent discoveries because scientists have high salaries in the government organization and if the privatization happens, their value will get degraded, So indirectly discoveries will also degrade.
Finally, the author points out that the privatization will benefit the taxpayer of the country. On the other hand, the lecturer notes that space tourism is not possible without public tax. They will need to build the space stations and the space airports which will cost too much. Investors' sponsorship will not be sufficient to build stations and airports, they will need to take funds from people, which will result to raise a tax.
