For the next two years, the figure saw an increasing trend of about 2%, and it collapsed to 5% in 2000. Next, the number remained stable at around 5% from 2000 to 2004 and slightly rose to 6% in the last year.
The Ireland emigration number stood at around 60,000 in 1988, and it fell to about 55,000 in the next two years. Following that, the figure plunged to about 35,000 in 1992 and observed a slightly changed in the next decade (from 1994 to 2002). Finally, in 2004 the number stepped up gradually and finished the period just below 50,000.
